SALEM, Ore. — Thousands of Oregonians could soon find unexpected money in their mailboxes, thanks to a $3.5 million initiative from the Oregon State Treasury. State Treasurer Elizabeth Steiner, MD, announced Tuesday that the Treasury will automatically return unclaimed funds to verified residents this month through its annual “Checks Without Claims” program.

The Oregon State Treasury will be proactively returning approximately $10 million in unclaimed property this month to individuals as part of the agency’s 2024 ‘Checks Without Claims’ initiative. Through ‘Checks Without Claims’, Treasury will proactively disburse payments to over 25,000 verified owners of unclaimed property reported to the state’s Unclaimed Property Program in 2021 and 2022.
